I have been messaged by several coaches suggesting the C or B playoffs be expanded to include more teams. The cut in the league fee cut the guaranteed games (regular season) from 9 to 8 - that`s one thing, but the additional balance was to trim back the playoffs. We`re essentially taking the top 8/14 in both B and C. On the other hand in past seasons when there has been 4 divisions of 9+ (vs 5 of less than 9), the top 8 was of course a higher percentage of teams. I definitely do not want to expand the playoffs, but what I will do is expand the postseason by 3 games with a consolation tournament for the four 5th place B and C teams. This will help with the odd game out playoff championship game (makes it a 2-game night so we`re not paying more for officiating). Additionally it will make the other playoff teams happy (there`s always a catch) - round 1 games will be on 10/31 so the B and/or C playoff teams don`t have to play that night. If any fifth declines, the bid will go to the 6th and then the 7th place team. For the trophy, I`ll just glue an empty (or full? depending on the team) whiskey bottle to a spare trophy base and get a label made: "Tournament of Fifths Champion". TOM
