subject: "Balancing team distribution, (2 "A" + "B") vs ("A", "B+", "B")"

I really want to get the schedule up ASAP, but I have hit a hitch in balancing the divisions. We don`t have enough (voluntarily at least) for a full "A" division - so I am considering combining A and B+ into 2 A divisions with (at the end of the regular season) the top teams from each going to "A" playoffs and the bottom teams going to "B+" playoffs.
I am going to play around with the divisions again today - if this format seems the best we`ll go with it.

sounds good

That sounds like it could work. Plus that gives the B+ teams a chance to see Better comp. Good Job!

I think that idea would be great. There`s no harm for any of the B+ teams since worst case scenario they just play B+ playoffs. Best case scenario we find some good B+teams who find out that they are good enough to play in A.

I think the current A B+ B format is good. Two A divisions would lead to some lopsided games (think TC, Sharks, Magnums vs the bottom eight B+ teams.). The only teams that might be able to compete is Union, Titans or Diesel. How about move those some of them up and then Hokies to B+ since they made B+ playoffs last spring?

The format is good, however the point to Tom`s post is that he can not balance the teams that "want" to play in the `A` league. That is why he is considering the two `A` leagues and the top of each play for the `A` title, the rest play for `B+`.

Yeah

and its a great idea...All these hot shot A teams are about to get level headed after they get a spoonful of B+

keep it simple
Mar 05, 2009 1:01 PM | | | ; |
go back to the old school way and have two open division and a novice division

|
you`re simple

the open division format lends itself to more lopsided games. Tom`s right on point with his analysis and solution. the A`s get tired of facing the same old A`s and the B+`s get a shot at some top teams. hey, maybe they get better and learn a few things. btw, forecast is 60`s and daylight savings is kicking in so LET`S START BALLIN` NOW!

For this season, a two "A" and one "B" division format would be exactly the same and as lopsided as a two open, one novice division format. Most of the b teams are from c last season anyways. There would be more parity and more competitive division games with a A B+ and B system.

Don`t

matter...Lets just play ball.

i like the idea of playing new teams - yeah there will be some lopsided games, but there are lopsided games every year. even when its A vs A. people miss games/play bad. give everyone a chance. i look forward to playing new teams.

I personally
Mar 06, 2009 4:15 PM | | | ; |
dont think it would be that lobsided. Maybe a great A team would be a lower caliber B+ team 28-7, 35-7, I could see that. But all those teams are decent and could hang with anyone in this league at least. I mean no ones gonna be pulling a Dunyah and losing 58-0 thats for sure.

I vote for the old school open style where all teams play each other and then get split it up during the playoffs. Only way for B, B+ teams to learn to get better is to play solid A teams. Besides there`s a lot of border line B+ -A teams so it should be exciting. Don`t punk out because you`re scared to play an A team.

Okay...going with 2 "A/Open" divisions and a "B", with Open splitting into "A" and "B+" playoffs at the end of the season.

I think there should be a B+, B, B- and the top teams play the tops teams in the playoffs and the bottom team watch the top teams in the playoffs.
Or perhaps the middle teams could play the top and bottom teams in the playoffs and the winners are the champions.
Or....ah.....I don`t know.....

So we don`t get to play the Sharks during the regular season?

Yes, I will move both Hokies and Kryptonites up - that works better anyhow for the overall team distribution for all divisions + scheduling.

Locs - no way I can justify putting your teams in the same division given the setup...sorry.
